Del protoitálico *seks-to-,1 del protoindoeuropeo *(s)uḱs-ó-.2 Compárese el prusiano antiguo uschts, el sánscrito षष्ठ (ṣaṣṭhá), el griego antiguo ἕκτος (héktos) y el gótico 𐍃𐌰𐌹𐌷𐍃𐍄𐌰 (saihsta).2
