Del gaélico clásico gorm ("azul, verde vegetal, oscuro") (irlandés gorm, gaélico escocés gorm),12 del protoindoeuropeo *gʷhermós ("cálido").34 Compárese el irlandés antiguo grís ("calor"), latín formus ("cálido"), o el inglés warm.
