Etimología
[editar]Del inglés medio iland, del inglés antiguo īġland, de íg ('isla') y land, lǫnd ('tierra')[1]. La ⟨s⟩ en la grafía moderna es influencia del francés isle, que no es un cognado etimológico. Compárese el neerlandés eiland o el nórdico antiguo eyland.
