Etimología[editar]
Del francés monolithe ("monolito"), del francés medio monolythe, del latín monolithus, del griego antiguo μονόλιθος, del prefijo μονο- (de μόνος, en última instancia del protoindoeuropeo *mey) y λίθος; equivalente al prefijo mono- y el sufijo -lith. Cognada con el alemán monolith ("monolito").1
El verbo se originó a partir del sustantivo.
