Etimología 1
[editar]Del irlandés medio tóir ('socorro, asistencia; refuerzo; persecución'), sustantivo verbal de *to-fo-reth-, del irlandés medio foreithid, del irlandés medio reithid,[1][2] en última instancia del protoindoeuropeo *roth₂-.[3] El mismo origen comparte el término inglés Tory ('político conservador'), a través del gaélico clásico tóruighe, tóiridhe ('saqueador; salteador').[4]
