Etimología[editar]
Del irlandés medio tóir ("socorro, asistencia; refuerzo; persecución"), sustantivo verbal de *to-fo-reth-, de fo·reth- ("socorrer"), de reithid ("correr"),[1] [2] en última instancia del protoindoeuropeo *roth₂- ("correr").[3] El mismo origen comparte el término inglés Tory ("político conservador"), a través del gaélico clásico tóruighe, tóiridhe ("saqueador; salteador").[4]
