Etimología[editar]

Del inglés medio firre, y este del antiguo *fyre o del nórdico antiguo fyri-, documentado en el compuesto fyriskógr, del protogermánico *furhjôn-, de *furhâ2, del protoindoeuropeo *pr̥kʷ-, grado cero de *perkʷu- ("roble"). Compárese el alemán Föhre, el danés fyr o el noruego y sueco fura.
