Etimología

Del inglés medio godsybbe, godsib ("un amigo o relación cercana, un confidente; un padrino"), del inglés antiguo godsibb ("padrino, patrocinador"), equivalente a god + sib. Doblete de godsib. Para la evolución del sentido a "discutir los asuntos personales de los demás", compare el francés commérage.
