[editar]Del inglés medio hale ('saludable'), y este del inglés antiguo hǣlu ('salud'), a su vez del protogermánico *hailoz, en última instancia del protoindoeuropeo *kóhₐilus. Compárese heal, whole, el holandés heel o el sueco hel.
